Having a life

New Year’s Eve and the usual topic will around us making New Year’s resolution. How was the year that is about to leave and what we look forward to the year to come will the common talks in TV shows and the usual yearend report will be run by news channels. Both good and bad events are sited at the same time people that shook the year will be talk about. The significance of each item will be analyzed and will be made as focal point for the coming year.

Of course don’t forget the predictions. Chinese and western astrologers will be consulted. Scientist, political analyst, and economist will say their views on the coming year’s outlook if it will be a good weather, political scene will be peaceful or the economy will plunge down again or will rebound back.

What then is a life which is always based on the times that has passed? Yes the past is our way of looking into the future. We make it our reference point to what direction are we bound to. But is it our choice. How we live our life solely depends on our hands. It is what we want that what will happen. If so then the past years misfortunes, sickness, and depression was our choice. Sad to say those were our choice. There is no one to blame for the poor performance that we have than ourselves. And yet we complain and begin to look for someone to blame. And in the coming year we consult the astrologers and analyst so that we won’t blame ourselves when we fall short on our expectations. We put the blame on them.

Having a life is not putting the decision on someone’s opinion. It is rather an action we must take no matter how uncertain the times may be. If we don’t make a decision and not move to action then we will never move forward; we will always be in the same place we have always use to be.

To have a life then is to make a decision, an action. One must pull oneself and be brave to face what is to come….for tomorrow is always a surprise.

Matrix

I love the Matrix movie trilogy but I was only able to watch the first two, the last I didn’t watch it anymore. With the stunning graphics and action sequence one will marvel at the great art made by the Wachoiski brothers. Of the two that I have watched, the second was the one that really made impression. The first presented me with a lot of questions while the second answered a lot of the questions. The third do I didn’t watch presented a possible team up between man and machine to fight a common foe.

But one thing made me thing. What if our present world we live in is actually a Matrix? We are all made part of a lie, that reality is not what we see but what is beyond the graphic programs that made our minds tick so that our bodies will fuel the machines need for electricity. Will you be dismayed that after all these years you are just living in a formula and the only person who can save us is Neo.

The favorite scene in the Matrix Reloaded was when Neo and The Architect met. All blurry things were cleared and finally Neo himself found a direction. That he was a flaw of the program The Architect made. The survival of men depends on the hand of a program virus. All truths were made clear to him, he realize that he himself was a creation of The Architect so that man will have a hope to continue struggling. He was the savior of the wretch world everyone was living.

If you were Neo would you save the world even though you knew you were just a part of it? Life has its mysteries and also its loop holes. One day we will stumble on them and it will make us think wether we are really living in a real world. Though it is the truth we should keep on struggling because change is in our hands, in our choice, our hopes, and in our hearts.

Choose to live in spite of a Matrix world we are living in.

Escape

Have you ever felt the feeling of just leaving everything and go somewhere where no one knows you. To be in a place where no one has high expectation on you, no one knows your weakness, and no one will bother you.

I read from Bo Sanchez’s books that as humans we need a time to be a part so that we can recharge our bodies so to speak. Jesus our Lord himself separates Himself from His disciples to recharge after preaching to the multitudes. If God does set time to rest and be just Himself, is it also for us humans. As they say “you cannot give what you don’t have.” You can not give time to others or even yourself if you are all exhausted thus one way is to escape. Escape from it all.

As for me, I do my escape by going to my favorite coffee shop to drink my coffee and search the internet or check my emails and listen to my favorite music. There nobody knows me, except for some of the baristas who already knew me as their constant customer, thus I have no feeling of being watch or being judge to be someone. I also jog on weekends in Riverbanks Marikina. I am shooting two birds with one stone, exercising and escaping at the same time.

The question is why do we escape? Do we escape from stress of our work, stress on our financial & family problems, or the boredom of life? I already experience boredom in life. I really hate because n matter what I do it seems that anywhere I turned to there is nothing. I constantly search companionship thus I text my old friends and classmates anything even in the middle of the night. Maybe I lack attention or that it seems that everyone has gone on with their lives and I am left alone. But don’t worry now I have already moved on that boredom by setting some goals in my life. We cannot escape it, things like this will come in our lives the only question is that are we going to let it take over our lives or are we going to face it and battle it out till we emerge victorious?

Most people’s escape is malling, eating, dating, or spending the time with someone. Problem is when you do this way your attention is either directed to the other person or thing instead of you. The problem is you thus the solution is in you. Back in the seminary we spend the whole Saturday evening in silence. We call it Silencio Magnum or Great Silence. In this activity no one is allowed to speak from six in the evening till the next day. The entire seminary is enveloped by silence that you can even hear the soft wind in the night when you are sleeping. We have our dinner at seven and a spiritual talk around 8 that will last for an hour. Then we pray our evening prayers and go to sleep. I love the silence. It relaxes and re-energizes the body. And it allows you to see yourself; to search the depths of your soul.

Escape to correct your mistakes, your faults, your flaws, and your hurts. After you have energized and fixed yourself you have the guts again to face the world. You have another chance to be the person that you are supposed to be and live life to the fullest as God has planned for you.
